Faheem Qadri
Faheem Qadri was born in Pampore, Kashmir in 1988, the same year when the passive liberty movement transformed into a proactive revolt in his hometown. As a child, he washed blood from the bodies of civilians caught in grenade blasts and crossfire. The tension in the highly militarized zone acted as a pressure cooker for Qadri’s artistry. At 14 years of age, he was inspired to fight back the best way he knew how: capturing Kashmir through the lens of his small Kodak camera. The goal of Qadri’s work is to help the world comprehend the pain, misery and devastation that every conflict leaves behind. He strives to give faces to the orphans, widows, and parents of victims who have fallen during the conflict – each of whom, as Qadri says, “has a story to tell.”
